Glossary of Golfing Terms - EThis page of our glossary of golfing terms is for golfing terms which begin with the letter 'E'.
- Eagle - A score of two under par on a hole.
- Eclectic - A total for a round of golf arrived at by taking the player's best score on each hole, usually for several or more cards in a long-running competition. Golfers sometimes also talk of their 'lifetime eclectic'. This means the total of their best scores on each hole of a particular course.
- Equipment - Anything designed to help the golfer play. Waterproofs, trolley and umbrella are included. Under the rules, however, it does not include the ball in play.
- Equity - If the rules of golf or local rules do not seem to cover a point of golfing law, a decision has to be made in accordance with equity. This matter of what is fair has caused many arguuments and appeals being made to committees at both club and national level.
- Etiquette - The conduct expected of players towards opponents, other golfers on the course and the course itself.
- Explosion - A sand shot played with the aim of propelling both ball and sand out of a bunker.
- Extension - A term used of the stretching of the arms through and after impact and usually considered essential in a good swing.
- Extra holes - Holes played after a match has finished level to decide a winner.
